Magellan Aerospace Awarded Airbus A318 Contract
09:10 EDT Tuesday, September 19, 2000

TORONTO, Sept. 19 /CNW/ - Magellan Aerospace Corporation announced today the award of a contract to provide acoustic nozzle assemblies for the new Airbus A318 aircraft. The work will be performed at Magellan's Middletown, Ohio facility in conjunction with Hispano-Suiza Aerostructures, LeHavre France. The contract is valued at over $29 million (Cdn).

Magellan Aerospace will now be delivering acoustic exhaust systems for Airbus Industrie's three newest aircraft models. In addition to the narrow- body A318, Magellan is currently under contract for engine exhaust nozzles and plugs for the wide-body Airbus A340-500 and A340-600 aircraft. Rich Neill, President of Magellan Aerospace, said, "The contract is the latest indicator of Magellan's expanding global customer base. The A318 is a key addition to the single-aisle aircraft offerings of Airbus Industrie, and Magellan is proud to be a part of this exciting new program." Magellan's Middletown, Ohio facility, Aeronca, Inc., is recognized worldwide for its expertise in the design and manufacture of acoustically treated exhaust components.

The A318, due to enter service in the last quarter of 2002, will carry 107 passengers on a standard two-class layout up to 3,700 km in its baseline version, and will be the smallest member of the highly successful A320 product line. Over the next 20 years, Airbus Industrie forecasts a demand of more than 1,300 aircraft in the A318 size category. Since its introduction at the Farnborough Airshow in 1998, a total of 157 orders and commitments have been received from customers including Air France, America West, British Airways, Egyptair, Frontier Airlines, ILFC, TWA, and GATX Flightlease.

Hispano-Suiza Aerostructures, a Snecma Group Company based in LeHavre, France, is the market leader in the field of nacelles and thrust reversers. Aircelle, a joint venture between Hispano-Suiza and Airbus Industrie, is responsible for the supply of the nacelle system on the A318 aircraft, while Hispano-Suiza Aerostructures is responsible for the thrust reverser inner fixed structure, engine mounts and common nozzle assemblies.
