Doing checks in Walmart and Target shows they are still too well stocked for this time of year.

Their back-to-school displays will start going up around 4th of July weekend, and that will be the next thing to watch closely.

If the back-to-school stuff gets hit hard in July, the consumer still is doing fairly well. If the consumer waits until the middle to end of August to get that stuff, it's an indication of tight purse strings.

One of the best indicators for the state of the consumer may be Amazon's Prime Day next month. That comes up on July 12-13.
