Ambient Corporation Announces Deployment of Power Line Communications Technology on Alabama Power's 12kV System

Relationship With Southern Telecom Strengthens
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 2003--Ambient Corporation (OTC BB:ABTG), a leader in Power Line Communications technology (PLC), today announced the successful deployment of a field trial of its proprietary power line communications technology, in partnership with Southern Telecom Inc. (STI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE:SO - News).
The field trial anticipates expanding the initial deployment to provide broadband Internet access to approximately 20 - 25 homes in Alabama. Moreover, it sets the stage for the expansion of the trial to a larger field trial to be conducted on Alabama Power's grid that would ultimately reach 100+ homes by the latter part of 2003.
Building off the successful field trial with ConEdison of New York, Inc., a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation's largest investor-owned utilities, the ongoing relationship with Southern Telecom validates Ambient's coupling technology and PLC architecture. The couplers are deployed on a 12kV distribution line.

Ambient's patent protected technology is designed to overcome traditional last mile obstacles through the utilization of existing electrical distribution systems to provide high-speed data communications.
