"I was basically told tough, but I had to cover the margin call. When I pointed out that the equity in my OCLI/JDSU more than covered the margin call, I was told that those shares were not available, so I needed to either cough up more money, or sell other shares!!!!
Am I missing something here? What is the procedure with other companies? What is my recourse?

In my humble opinion...getting a margin call based on the information you just provided..is a pile of crap..I'm an amateur investor so I can't give you much helpful advice other than to ask for the "Floor Supervisor" and get an explanation..Common sense says they're wrong and shouldn't be able to do that..

In short..don't put up with that bull*#!T
