Hi shades -

The biggest money maker on AM in the US right now are news, talk, and sports. I'm not sure I need to spend money to hear Michael Savage, Dr. Laura or Randy Rhodes in High Fidelity.

Most of the AM radio stations broadcasting talk formats won't spend the 50-100k for equipment.

The AM channel bandwidth is a little bit better than a land line phone, so the amount of data you can push through (and number of channels) is limited.

There is a similar satellite radio service in Europe, I think called Worldspace.

The whole tower business is real interesting - very leveraged biz models.
