I know some people did that who started a company on the TSXV.
Yeah, monetization of such off the wall niche thingies is the key.
People love free but the darned thing is it is the devil to get them to pay for it.
There should be a good mining info site that is free, sort of like info mine but not so expensive. Mbendi is an African site that has believe it or not, much good info on North American stuff. In the early days of the net there were many sites that compiled geological info and networking, but many of them were not maintained over the years.
A link site that was organized or self organizing somehow could provide a starting point for geo info. You could call it Gaggle Rock, Rock My World, - Sedimonde.
Trouble is money and time. Such sites have to pay in some way. A community effort would be nice. Upload of old data, building of link pages. Has to be set up such that links would not be put in the wrong place. Needs co-op editing and strict rules. Also a google search engine for the page. A Wikirockipedia of mining companies, property, minerals mine and geo models, available properties, geo-dictionary, company finder by mineral, person, country, etc.. legal info, explo data, hardcopy directories, pict gallery of people, places, minerals, machines, equipment for sale, services, country info, people, history, etc.. could be sponsored. I wonder if Barrick or Teck would do it. It has to be non partisan, easily accessible, and authoritative. Links, indexes into MNDM, Mine Web, BC Minfile, should be there. Also an index built, more comprehensively but along the lines of the MNDM occurrence database. Needs back end postgress data base, some index pages, multi key searching and google indexing too.
