I watched this great special on deconstructing a house on discovery channel a few months back - they talked about those old homes having that old growth wood with great structural integrity - able to hold a lot more weight than this new wood - but they showed some kind of engineered wood - it was as good as the old wood. I can't afford one of those old plantation homes in coastal florida - they are in the millions - out of my current budget. I have to have a sealed home, keep it cool in my computer room and keep the humidity down that way and keep the bugs out - how those people in the old south went all day breathing that heavy air and battling the noseeums and mosquitoes is a mystery to me - hehe.
