Calling PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH dumb is a perfect idiot identification confirmation event.

And even Gore more commonly known as sore loser proves the above point.

Gore offers senator some debating tips

WASHINGTON - Be prepared for the toughest debates of your career: This is the advice former vice-president Al Gore has for presidential candidate John Kerry.

Mr Gore, who lost by the narrowest of margins to Mr George W. Bush in 2000, warns the Massachusetts senator ahead of the first televised presidential debate not to underestimate his rival.

'While George Bush's campaign has made 'lowering expectations' into a high art form, the record is clear - he is a skilled debater who uses the format to his advantage,' Mr Gore wrote in the New York Times.

Rather than have a debating duel, Mr Kerry would be better off targeting Mr Bush's record as President.

'And therein lies the true opportunity for John Kerry - because notwithstanding the President's political skills, his performance in office amounts to a catastrophic failure. And the debates represent a time to hold him to account,' Mr Gore said.

'The debates are not a time for rhetorical tricks,' he added. 'It is a time for an honest contest of ideas. Mr Bush's unwillingness to admit any mistakes may score him style points. But it makes hiring him for four more years too dangerous a risk.

'Stubbornness is not strength; and Mr Kerry must show voters that there is a distinction between the two.'

For the voters, these debates represent an opportunity to explore four relevant questions, Mr Gore wrote.

'Is America on the right course today, or is it off track? If we are headed in the wrong direction, what happened and who is responsible? How do we get back on the right path to a safer, more secure, more prosperous America? And, finally, who is best able to lead us to that path?'

Mr Bush and Mr Kerry are scheduled to meet on Thursday (Friday, Singapore time) for 90 minutes at the University of Miami in Florida to square off on foreign policy and homeland security.

They will meet again on Oct 8 at Washington University in Missouri to discuss all topics, and hold a final encounter on domestic and economic issues on Oct 13 at Arizona State University in Arizona. -- New YorkTimes, AFP
