Jack, this is all related to investing and trading, trying to approach it from the spiritual perspective.

Have you read any trading magazines, such as Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities? They usually have at least one major article on psychology as it applies to trading. We are interested in that, looking beyond our psychology, to the mind of God and how best to relate to him and thus have the optimal attitude and orientation toward trading and investing.

A book called The New Market Wizards, by Schwager, is a collection of interviews with highly successful traders. Two of the most spectacularly successful are Joe and Mark Ritchie, who got started in trading by trading pigeons in Afghanistan (or one of those countries over there) when they were there with their missionary parents. Mark wrote a book about his spiritual "quest" which came to a peak when he was trading commodities on the floor of the CME. His book is called God in the Pits. The two brothers were laughed at when they first asked about getting a seat on the exchange. One of them borrowed a suit and the other one wore a tattered suit to the interview.

Nobody's laughing at them now, and they have a trading company with about 800 employees.

One interesting comment Mark Ritchie made about praying and trading is that if he finds himself praying for a position he is in, he will get out of the position or reduce his exposure - because God is not a market manipulator. But there is a right way to pray about trading or whatever we are involved in.

John
