"Christians in America, as well as all others who value truth in governance and freedom in their corporate and individual lives, would do well to insist on practicing what is the mainstream of America -- that is, the public recognition of the Creator as the integration point of civil life in the United States"
It is a secular country of laws with freedom of religion for all. No religion has any favor or prejudice above (or below) any other, from a government (or GOVERNING) perspective. Therefore, it is both immoral and illegal for government to choose to back or buttress any religious preference over any other--including the preference of humanistic free thought. When people take the momentous step of becoming citizens, they do so with the guarantee that government will not marginalize their religious beliefs through any other special interest groups selling religion.
Just as Christians would highly resent and oppose a Mayor, a Governor, a Senator, or a President endorsing Islamic celebrations as a governing policy--so do all religions and agnostics, humanists, and atheists feel threatened when Government does not clearly isolate itself from religious proselytization. |
