Doug, I listened to a discussion on Asia today. Many there feel the actions of the IMF ended up bailing out the rich while putting economic handcuffs on the poor. It was suggested its become a testing environment for continued belief in democracy. It requires something along the order of the Marshall plan which cost very little compared to the inspiration it provided during a period of difficult transition.

Regarding upping the transmission speeds and solving the bottlenecks, legislation and international agreements on non-taxing free trade via the net is very positive... although when one looks at it through colder logic its plain that for every enterprize gain there are losses elsewhere. In the roll over to internet efficiencies many other jobs are being lost. I wonder what the net gains and losses are? Every pun intended.
