Microsoft Corp.: Now Expects Expedia Gain in Second Half of Fiscal (June) 2002
12/19/01 8:27am ET

Microsoft Corp. (RL) announced that it now expects the sale of its stake in Expedia to close in March or possibly during its June quarter. We expect this sale to result in a pretax gain of approximately $650 million, or about $0.08 per share. We have shifted this nonoperating gain into the company's fourth (June) fiscal quarter of 2002 from the December quarter, thus lowering our December-quarter EPS estimate to $0.42 from $0.50 and raising our June-quarter estimate to $0.53 from $0.45. We have not changed our fiscal-year estimates: $1.82 for fiscal 2002 and $2.05 for fiscal 2003.
