No, I mean the explosives which are necessary to ensure that the structures fell correctly in a vertical manner and not to one side or the other. A big explosion in the basement is all very well but its effects would have been unpredictable and the buildings could quite easily have toppled over, which, clearly, they did not. There had to have been some means of "control".

I don't know how conspicuous aircraft debris would have been in the situation of 100 storey buildings falling in piles of rubble.
