A blunt instrument, properly employed, is enormously useful. However, there are times when it is more appropriate to use an épée, a stiletto, or even a pin. It is not always to the point (pun intended) to hit another person with a sledge hammer when subtle and polite discourse or scholarship will do the job better. It is wise to choose one's tools to suit the work at hand.
