It is not fraudulent per se to buy a troubled companies bonds and short its stock. It is a very common trade if one supposes bankruptcy is on the horizon. It's fraudulent if it is prompted by insider knowledge, etc.

One key to success for the shareholders would be to find evidence that a voting bondholder was a "front" or otherwise acting at the behest of LG.
