Remember when windows came out? How long was it before it was considered more than a joke?

I still consider that question premature. Seriously though, terminals are still a compelling value for a vast segment of information processing applications. The drawback with terminals was that they could not execute code and there wasn't a common language to control what little programmatic cabability was there. Green-screens, x-window and other smart terminals will quickly be replaced as Java applications come online. Microsoft is going to have to adopt Java or risk annihilation. Once you have a critical mass of Java applications for the dizzying array of hardware which Java supports, it's all over for Microsoft's proprietary technology. When developers start clamoring for Solaris you will know the curtain is coming down on Microsoft.
