It was almost like cheating, wasn't it? I mean, there's your poor family, worrying and agonizing through each minute, wondering if they'll see you again-at least alive-and you go blithely off to sleep and wake up a second later, done.

I'm so glad the reading story inspired you. Do you think you can get back to it? I think you may be right about it keeping interest alive for a child who is struggling with the act of reading. CW never cared for reading by himself, but he does now. I'm trying to remember your kids ages as I type--younger than mine, I know, but older than Alexa's? 7 and 9- something like that? Have you read the Wayside School series aloud? Hank the Cowdog? I probably kept a list (I love lists). We liked funny, silly things. And the occasional heavier one-like The Whipping Boy and The Giver. Bet Alexa has some favorites too.
