The province of Kosovo belongs to Yugoslavia, along with Montenegro and Serbia. The ethnic Albanians have no territorial rights in claiming Kosovo belongs to them. The KLA was trying take Kosovo by force. Serbia wouldn't let them.

What else is there that you don't understand?

As far as their "misery" is concerned everybody in the Balkans is miserable as they have been for over 600 years. It is one of those places that you don't want to visit even if the hotel room is free.
