I think Newbridge is ahead with CSI, but not by much. In a
recent internal magazine that gets distributed to all the
employees, Mr. Lutz was quoted as saying something like "we can't
afford to have good ideas like CSI (in the future) and see
them promulgated by others". In the context, I took the comment
to mean CSI was to some extent an opportunity lost.

An NN follower who can't post yet, asked me to explain that CSI is an architecture designed to deliver many Customer IP VPN's over one single "managed" infrastructure.

He said it's not a lost opportunity but an architecture that's being carefully released. When it comes out to full release it must be very good. It's the best approach available today to address scalability, management and many other needs that continue to be a nuisance to carriers in the IP space.

Many of the incumbent carriers have a massive investment in routers (mostly Cisco) to consider also.

The recent announcement that Ericsson will be partnering on the CSI platform is exciting.
