I would be more inclined to tell these particular individuals that they were full of crap via e mail as opposed to face-to-face. There are some extremely dangerous people out there (I'm sure that I don't need to tell you this) who have taken it upon themselves to prepare for the worst. Trust me when I say that I know this to be a fact. You're right about the "Petrol" reference. We Americans generally don't refer to petroleum distillates used for automobiles as "Petrol". In the off chance that there is any truth to this rumor at all, however, it is difficult to envision such a rationing card as stating "fuel" or "gas". Those terminologies could refer to a number of alternate possibilities such as heating oil or natural gas or propane. You've brought up another interesting possibility. Military personnel are trained / programmed to follow orders. What happens when significant groups of them make the collective, conscious decision to commit mutiny when ordered to fire upon American citizens?
