I'm adding TRIB & QDEL to my watch list. Risk is high on these two, but risk reward looks good. Besides I like watching paint dry. QDEL has some new board blood. Both fit in size and products. Both are depressed, and priced accordingly, but profitable. Nothing a cost cutter can't fix. BIO-RADS recent debt offering was 200 million. The flu severity after all the media scare of vaccine shortages was lighter than expected.

Nothing in the works that I know of. However I have a feeling the words Bird Flu will be big later in 2005 & 2006. I think it a reasonable assumption that one of these three are working on a test for it.

New test agent to detect bird flu infection in 30 minutes

Saturday, December 25, 2004 at 00:02 JST
TOKYO — Clinical diagnostic maker Eiken Chemical Co and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases jointly launched sales Friday of reagent that is able to detect bird flu virus infection in birds or humans in about 30 minutes, compared with more than several hours with existing methods.

The two expect the reagent to draw demand from research institutes and poultry farms. In preventing the illness from spreading, determining the infection as soon as possible is vital. (Kyodo News)
