JP, Had a chance to see the fool site. It seems your concerns about Jaz drives blowing up was the old news that was discussed a while back on this thread. Here's some info to chew on:
This may be the "Fool" post you were referring to: <<I confess to having NOT read ALL the posts recently, but the thing that has me most concerned as a fundamental investor is the failure rate of Jaz. From most of what I have seen here very recently - and from people I know to have no axe to grind against IO - this looks to be a serious problem. It is entirely reasonable to expect it to adversely effect the bottom line, not only for this Q but for the long haul.>>
Here's some homework:
I likewise was concerned that maybe something was amiss with the Jaz. So I called Howard Kalt,IOMG's investor relations company as well as Howard Rosencrans of H.D. Brous. Rosencrans was the first one I got ahold of. I had faxed him each of Mr. McConathy's posts over the past few days dealing with his frustration with the Jaz. My question to Mr. Rosencrans was "Have you heard of anyone else having these types of problems? Have you heard of a high defect rate on the Jaz?" Mr. Rosencrans relayed that this was the first he had heard of this type of problem. He indicated that there was some difficulty with the Jaz when it was first released, but that the problem had been taken care of very quickly. Again, he had not heard of any further problems.
I next heard back from Mr. Kalt. He likewise had not heard of any problems with Jaz. He indicated that while their firm was not an IOMG customer service center, their firms phone number is on basically every piece of information that is given out about the company. He indicated that they average about 1,100 calls per month concerning IOMG. During the month of July, only 2 calls were concerning problems with Jaz. So far for August, 2 additional calls were logged concerning problems with Jaz.
While I realize that Kalt is not IOMG's customer service representative, I do believe that people with a serious concern or problem will call or write everyone they can think of to complain. Especially when Kalt's phone number is all over the place as a contact for IOMG. Kalt reiterated what KE said in the 2nd qtr conference call. That is, that rumors of defects with the Jaz and Zip are untrue. KE would not stick his neck out and say the above if in fact, the opposite was true. So far, KE has been very forthright in discussing the difficulties IOMG has and is facing. I.E. component shortages, production delays on the Jaz, challenging 3rd qtr, etc. Why oh why would he state emphatically that rumors of problems with the Jaz were untrue, when he has so plainly and painfully stated other difficulties in the past?
For now, I will take KE at his word until these rumors are proven true. Too many times in the past others have tried to sway us by bringing up rumors and problems that would be the downfall to IOMG (witness the perennial cash shortage argument).
Ditto!!
