<But I DO think that being armed is the very highest of civic duties. Our founders though so too. Just read their writings. If the people are armed it is more difficult to the point of impossibility for an abusive government to arise. >

I heard that Iraqis were heavily armed and still are. Same with Afghanistan. They celebrate at weddings by firing guns [though not if Americans are in the vicinity as the Americans go bananas and start shooting too, but in the direction of the bride and groom].

Yet, Saddam is considered to have run an abusive government [according to the USA rulers especially].

<The fact that gun control is item number one on the agenda of socialist movements everywhere is all the proof of the internationalist nature of socialism a logical person needs. The fact that the US population remains armed is a big burr under the saddle of socialists everywhere, especially those here who call themselves "liberals".>

The logic escapes me. Most people proselytize their views, be they for religion, democracy, gun control, liberalism, socialism, master racism. I don't think control of guns is proof of socialism being internationalist in nature.

<Widespread gun ownership is one of the truly unique things about the US and accounts for much of our sucess and prosperity and the stability of the government here. It is the ultimate check and balancer of government excess. No other place in the world compares in this regard.>

Now you are really going awol. I have no idea why owning loads of guns makes wealth. Iraqis own a lot too. They are not wealthy, or stable. The ultimate check and balance of government excess is an election. If the government ignores the constitution and refuses to hold elections, then they aren't a government under the USA constitution.

What you mean is the ultimate check against usurpation of the constitution is an armed insurrection by people supporting the constitution.

Japan is about as wealthy as the USA yet has no guns and is very stable and has lots of good qualities. I think the gun theory is false.
