I strongly disagree. Republicans controlled the House for most of the past 20 years (excluding the Great Recession). What have they done to justify a single election or reelection?
Hey, that was then, this is now. The question is, "What have you done since the last election?"

In that context neither Dems or GOP look great, do they?

Dems have successes to crow about. The ACA, gay marriage, Dodd-Frank, saving the economy from collapse etc.
ACA is an expensive failure. Nobody can afford the premium increase. Gay marriage was nothing but a virtue signaling event - by the time it was passed majority of folk didn't have really strong opinion about it. Dodd-Frank is destroying regional banks and promoting growth of mega banks thus destroying competition and making financial system more fragile. The "saving economy from collapse" was to save pension plans and saving bank share holders from eating losses but using QE as was done has left the economy stagnant thru to 2016.

These are not wonderful accomplishments and need legislative fixing. And what have GOP and Dem legislators done about any of it? Sweet Fanny Adams.

If anyone thinks a republican voter needs something from his party I'd like to see some evidence backing it up.
The wall.
Tax reform
Infra structure projects.
Repeal and replace Obamacare - especially repeal.
Curbing neoliberal excess, (globalism) - renegotiation of treaties; redeveloping US industry; reintegrating US economy.

That's a shortlist.
