GE Says Report of Problems With BroadVision Is Inaccurate
By Jim Finkle
Redwood City, California, Dec. 7 (Bloomberg) -- A General Electric Co. spokesman said a report that BroadVision Inc. lost a contract with General Electric Capital Corp. because of problems installing BroadVision's software is inaccurate.
``This is completely overstated,'' said Jeff DeMarrais, a spokesman for GE.
General Electric Capital delayed plans to install BroadVision's software for personalizing Internet content on one of its Web sites, DeMarrais said.
``This is an instance of postponing BroadVision plans on a single project. We're not changing vendors,'' he said.
The decision was made for ``business reasons'' and not because of problems with BroadVision's software, he said. He declined to elaborate.
Earlier today, CNBC cited Credit Suisse First Boston as saying that GE decided to cancel a contract. Installation of the software was only half completed, yet the project was four times over budget, Tom Costello reported on financial news network CNBC, citing CS First Boston.
Brent Thill, the CS First Boston analyst who covers BroadVision, wasn't available to comment.
BroadVision shares fell $3.25 at $21.06 in midafternoon trading. They had fallen as low as $20.63, or by as much as 15 percent, following that report.
