Yeah, it could happen. I don't want to say anything’s is out of the question. But, I look at it like any other natural disaster. Its like a hurricane that hits the entire country, except with no damage. Besides the only military that could be activated would be the National Guard, who routinely gets called to active duty if a natural disaster, or riot occurs. These guys won't shoot anyone if they violate curfew. Now if the individual is a direct threat to them, yeah they will open fire, just as I would.

Worst case scenario: riots because the supply chain is broken and people can't get money to pay for necessities, so they revert to looting.
Or more of a concern, just run of the mill idiots who use it as an excuse to riot and loot. Even the Rodney king riots were not all about oppression of a minority. A lot used it as an excuse to steal or break others peoples property. Also, you have got to remember that due to all this Y2K hysteria, a lot of people will have large sums of money in house or on their possession. A lot of intelligent criminals know this fact. This is the main concern people need to be aware of.

Best case scenario: I'm hung over from a night of partying and nothing has happened.

But I will be prepared for this for new years, after all a big ice storm could happen rather then any big problems with the population. But I will be armed, as I usually am,
regardless.
