Barry, been out of town for a couple of days. Wife felt we should take a break and I agreed , so off we went; craft malls and antiques. She really took a break, about $300 worth. In our later years we feel we must enjoy one another while we can. We watched her parents stay home most of the time and finally get where they couldn't travel when they wanted to. We hope to burn our share of the gas in retirement and enjoy it.
Sorry about your friend. Competition is tough out there in computer work and also changes can come quickly. When the larger companies move in, the little man has a most difficult time making headway. I had a similar experiece with a database rebuilding system under DL/I. Some of the Air Force bases used it , but no company was interested although it worked better than the IBM version. The best part of mine was , it worked everytime. With IBM there could be an occassional problem.
I shall pray for him, I can sympathize with him.
BTW, do you know anyone with a company named Cymbolic Systems in Springfield, MO.?
God bless,
