Company Press Release

Centura Partners with ETS to Mobilize Entire German Healthcare System with eSNAPP

First International Customer Deploys eSNAPP Shortly After Product Release

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1999-- Centura(TM) Software Corporation (Nasdaq:CNTR - news), leader in e-Business and Information Appliance databases and development solutions, announced today the first international installation of its eSNAPP technology. Following close on the heels of the November 1, 1999 release of eSNAPP, German ISV (independent software vendor), ETS is using the eSNAPP technology to implement cibait, a revolutionary healthcare solution, for Germany's national healthcare system.

Developed specifically for the hospital environment, cibait utilizes wireless technology and the eSNAPP solution to connect the entire healthcare system via handheld devices. Previous systems prevented hospitals from efficiently disseminating and allowing access to accurate, updated patient records. The lack of real-time communications made it necessary for each successive doctor or specialist to repeat the same preliminary examination and medical history. With cibait doctors and nurses throughout the system will use handheld devices to enter patient information, which will be kept on a central server -- in essence, creating a single patient record that can be modified in real-time and accessed throughout the hospital and elsewhere. Associated rehabilitation centers, pharmacies and doctors making house calls will all be connected via the same network, making it possible to confer with other doctors around the country and update records instantly. The cibait system and eSNAPP technology greatly increases efficiency in the provision of healthcare, saving valuable time and money. The resulting improvements in care management serve to increase patient satisfaction.

``We are very pleased to be part of a partnership that can do so much to improve the quality of healthcare in Germany. Our eSNAPP system will help to make the most accurate and up to date patient information available at all times from all points,' said Scott Broomfield, Centura's chief executive officer.

eSNAPP is a server-centric appliance connectivity solution, where data is accessed directly from enterprise sources. Its flexible, direct access to data and logic stored on the central enterprise server eliminates the risk of duplicating dynamic data and the need to maintain duplicate data on thousands of devices. The scalability inherent in eSNAPP allows it to handle thousands of devices and hundreds of transactions simultaneously by managing the connections to devices and enterprise data sources, making it ideal for the demands of a national healthcare system.

In countries that have a national healthcare system similar to that of Germany, Centura's eSNAPP has the potential to create one comprehensive patient record that, when stored on a central server, will be accessible to the nation's healthcare providers. The technology provides the opportunity to view and access an individual's complete medical history -- dating back to birth -- ensuring a higher level of quality care.
