Bush asked for it with the SmearVet campaign but I guess Karl Rove told him "look, the only way you can win is with a Nazi-type tidal wave of smears and lies". and GW said "Let's go for it, Karl, just the way we did with McCain in 2000". Anything to win. Even lying, cheating and smearing war heros.
