1) Software is more profitable than hardware. Apple makes hardware but
has anyone considered that Several Mac Clone Co.s are doing quite well? There is more to Apple than just Apple now folks.
2) Microsoft buys software Co.s all the time.
3) Apple bought NeXT, this does not preclude hiring other talent or buying other software even the Be coding talent. Microsoft sells several OSs. Why can't Apple sell several OSs?
4) Consolidation of coding talent is the computer business.
5) Microsoft is lazy when it comes to customer satisfaction. They just don't care. Remember who said GUIs would never catch on. The fortunate synergy they had with IBM is what put them on top, not quality.

I understand why most people buy Wintel machines, just as most people don't buy fancy cars. But for people like me, Wintel just doesn't make
economic sense very often. The only thing I would use Windows (NT) for is 3D Softimage or to check if a Director project works on Intel machines.

I have never had a major problem in 3 years of Mac use. No one I know
has had a major problem. I'm in the graphics business, I know a lot of
Mac users.

It took a friend of mine over one month to get a new pentium board he installed to work. Numerous trips to the hardware dealer. Numerous calls. This guy is a professional C programmer. He finally abandoned the Intel board for I think an AMC(?) board and got it to work. Now at
$50/hr (cheap) for 160 hours of lost work time thats...$8000 bucks folks. Not to mention wear and tear on his vehicle and mind. I have two other friends having similar problems. One can't get his printer to work. He is a retired engineer who helped put a man on the moon. In the construction business this is known as "Tripping over dollars to pick up nickels".
