Often the leaders lead then the secondary stocks catch up. I've had SOME luck with buying these secondary stocks after watching the leaders take off. Notice the bottom of this rally was 10/10 and yet I was able to get good prices as late as 10/15. Of course, LRCX was really low on 10/10 and I guess wrong buying A first... as it didn't bottom until later but still some success.

I have had good luck buying stocks at major bottoms but I have only had some success taking profits where I would have been better to just sell all as the next downtrend really crunched the stocks. Still, I like the idea of keeping the number of shares I "trade" smaller than the total ... perhaps 25% or so thus I am always trying to grow the total number of shares I own and hold.
