The lesbian comment will cost Kerry dearly.

These remarks about Cheney's daughter were strategized well in advance -- Edwards first, then Kerry. The point obviously was to provoke responses that would make it seem like the Cheney's were embarrassed to have a lesbian daughter.

This is typical Dem strategy that gives zero credit to the intelligence of the average voter. When Cheney replied with the "thank you," only the dumbest person would not know that he was refusing to discuss his family and telling Edwards to back-off. In typical heavy-handed fashion, the Dem's advised Kerry to push the button again with Bush.

The net result is that the gay activists are pleased, but these votes were all Kerry's anyway.

Meanwhile, millions of voters -- especially the critical female vote -- cringed at this blatant violation of family privacy, aggravated later by Mrs. Edwards incredible effrontery in insinuating herself into the Cheney mother-daughter relationship.

Who know how many votes will be tipped by this appalling demonstration of rudeness and insensitivity -- but K & E have squandered a lot of good will and benefit-of-doubt concerning their characters, ethics, and judgment.
