I don't get it. A few days ago everything was rosy. The market performed very well in January as as everyone was saying, the way January goes goes the rest of the year.

Some of the PC makers came out talking about how robust their sales were. Compaq announced that sales through their new web site were exceeding their expectation, reaching 1 million dollars in revenues/day. Lots of talk about people in general buying PCs. Market doing well. Then BAM!!! Out of nowhere (from the news I had been hearing and reading) the chip makers appear to be having problems. Stocks start going through the floor.

I'm scratching my head and **not** even checking any of the other stocks I hold which, without looking, I know 100% are DOWN--why be a glutton for punishment when I am long in the and not planning to sell anyway [and NEVER buy on margin]?

Some the the stocks dropping were just a few days ago everyone's darlings--and tooted by analyst after analyst. All have large institutional ownership which, I would have expected, would keep their prices up because even if little people like us over-react, institutionals don't normally churn their holdings.
