Zell Miller is an A-HOLE!!! and a political opportunist that cannot be trusted.

I find it amazing that so many Americans are so very naive and they would swallow unquestioningly whatever their GOP leaders or GOP-sponsored spokespersons throw at them.

However, some teacher-friends of mine in Pennsylvania and Florida told me I should not be surprised as the US high schools across the land are so much taken up with practising the much touted Self-Esteem philosophy that they do not teach kids how to think, and that both teachers and parents of the last two generations were products of the same education philosophy! Another ugly and discomfiting truth is that kids of today don't bother to read and write properly. Result: most of them are essentially functional illiterates and, in not a few number of instances, their high school diplomas are quite "bogus" but they were given to them anyway to uphold their "self-esteem" or else their psyches would be "scarred" or "traumatized" for life. (Joke: a few students sued their schools for being unable to gain employment despite the high school diplomas awarded to them.)

Yet another ugly fact is that the young people of today are generally ignorant of world history. As many of the posters here on Si were probably born in the mid-sixties, most of them know little or nothing about the Vietnam War. Result: they believe the lies, slanderous remarks, distortions and fabrications and allow themselves to become anti-Kerry idiots. In a way, they remind me of a time when country yokels and rubes chanted "No taxation without representation" without knowing what those words meant!

Last night, to GOPers and unthinking folks, Zell Miller was the star of the moment. But I found he was not sincere: he was a very poor actor. It seemed to me he has had more than a few shots of "dutch courage" (alcohol) before he got on to the podium.
