RE: "A superior method that I have seen is where all the members of the meeting have code names and are at their desks in private and theyt type their comments under their code name and so the smallest, lowest status player can make a comment for the group to consider."

Bill,
Very interesting. A brainstorming meeting on the front-end of an emerging technology project can be most effective when ideas are nurtured and when the meeting guidelines are, "all ideas are fair game, so no saying no to a teammate's idea," since studies have shown saying no to team members' ideas creates negative energy and reduces the flow/exchange of ideas. Ideas build upon each other, and can be obstructed when a no shuts down the formation of what could be a good idea (or a lead into a good idea.)

Having said that, as a project matures, closure (i.e. "J" in the Meyers-Brigg model) is more important than another good idea ("P" in the Meyers-Brigg model) which could delay a project ... which is why, the front-end of a new emerging technology project [not a cost reduced version which tends to be repetitive] usually has a lot of creative "P's" on the team, (the majority of high-tech Silicon Valley CTO's are "P's" per one study) while the final stages of a project (i.e. as the project/product/industry matures) shifts to "J's" where other factors become more important. Interesting topic.

Do you know which net meeting package they used?

Do you know which company did this? I'd be interested in knowing, although, I'm curious why they didn't focus on changing the culture to understand/implement the creative process and to benefit from a flat organization.

Thanks, Amy J
