US Sales of Wireless Services Seen More Than Doubling by 2005

--From AOL News. Sounds low to me.-- Cooters

Boston, Massachusetts, Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. sales of wireless services will more than double to $100 billion by 2005 as millions more people sign up and existing customers use their phones more, according to a market-research study.

The report, released by Wellesley, Massachusetts-based Strategy Analytics Friday, estimates the number of U.S. wireless customers will surpass 225 million by 2005. Strategy Analytics, formerly BIS Strategic Decisions, didn't provide the current number of U.S. wireless customers.

The outlook is based on lower per-minute prices and the adoption of ``calling party pays,' a billing system that lets customers receive phone calls without paying for them. Wireless customers now pay for incoming calls.

The penetration rate, or number of cellular customers per 100 people, will more than double to 80 percent from 31 percent now, the study says.
