HLIT....STM Wireless Signs Agreement With Harmonic Data
Systems Announcing Two-Way Broadband VSAT IP
Solution

Business Wire - October 05, 1999 07:16

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999--STM Wireless Inc. (STM)
(Nasdaq:STMI) today announced an agreement with Harmonic Data Systems Inc. (HDS), a
subsidiary of Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq: HLIT), to provide a two-way broadband product
portfolio that combines STM's SpaceWeb VSAT system with HDS's CyberStream(TM) IP
over DVB/S MPEG-2 broadband technology.

The STM/HDS solution will enable corporations and service providers to offer two-way fast
Internet access, virtual private networking, videoconferencing, large volume data/file transfer,
multicasting, data broadcasting, and push services.

Emil Youssefzadeh, Chief Executive Officer of STM, stated, "We believe that by combining
HDS's CyberStream Enterprise system with STM's portfolio of two-way VSAT technology,
we can offer a family of high-performance two-way broadband products that can be used for a
variety of applications."

David Price, HDS's Vice President of Business Development, stated, "The demand for
low-cost, high-performance two-way broadband IP products is growing both in the US and
overseas. We believe that the HDS/STM combined solution is a superior value proposition for
customers that are either unable to or do not want to use conventional terrestrial return paths."

The suite of two-way broadband products will serve a number of applications including:
high-end solutions for enterprise systems, integrated remote access service for ISP's, in-building
broadband for hotels and high-density complexes, and low-end solutions for single users as well
as the SOHO market.
