it's a brilliant idea for any democracy; no we won't send our boys, we'll send somebody ELSE's boys.

Personally, I would like any US foreign legion to be dedicated to international peace-keeping missions where US casualities and media attention can sap the will on the part of the people (Somalia... Kosovo.. Bosnia.. :0) After all, the American sentiment is "what the hell are doing risking our lives for these ungrateful wretches??"..

And since they would be "light infantry" units, it would free up US units to do the training they need to be doing for fighting large conflicts, not brushfire wars and international police missions.

And besides, there are more than enough "boys" willing to fight to obtain French citizenship.. I can only imagine how many would volunteer to join to obtain US citizenship.
