6/28/00 - Wireless Apps Invade Enterprise

Jun 28, 2000 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- NEW YORK -- Enterprise mobility is the buzz, as mobile data developers are beginning to deliver on promises of anytime, anywhere wireless connectivity.

Wireless Knowledge, San Diego, is one of those wireless companies that plans to offer valid enterprise applications with its Workstyle Servers. Microsoft (stock: MSFT) and Qualcomm (stock: QCOM) founded the company, which unveiled at PC Expo a joint relationship with AT&T (stock: T) to provide wireless access to enterprise customers.

Aside from its AT&T partnership, which will beef up its corporate customers, Wireless Knowledge is also working on expense management applications and medical applications.

"IT departments three years ago were more reluctant to deploy mobile data devices in the enterprise," said Eric Schultz, chairman and CEO of Wireless Knowledge. "Now we are finding that it is considered to be a top agenda item."

Deploying mobile applications and devices in the enterprise will increase productivity as well as mobility, Schultz said.

"The devices and networks are there, the awareness is there," Shultz said. "Now we just have to deliver the killer apps."
