Warning about the Insider Report
I have to caution all readers of Insider Report that the text on Ebony Gold and Gas"stolen" by Insider Report, stockhouse.com. July 12, 1996 has been used without my knowledge, against my will and in spite of my repeated protest. It is unedited, written in a format inappropriate for that forum and should not in any way support investment decisions in that company.
My name having been repeatedly added to the original text, I strongly emphasize that I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR NOR AN AUTHORITY ON INVESTING AND MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO CLAIMS TO BE.
24 hours later, after two incensed letters of protest, I am still waiting for an apology from the Insider Report and for the withdrawal of the text from their site. It is obvious by now that none is forthcoming.
I am therefore forced in order to protect myself to write my own disclaimer on public sites that may be visited by people having read that text.
I quote from the response I have received from the Insider Report: ">We feel you are way out of bounds in your attack on us as we did more than >what most people would have done in verifying its accuracy and protecting >everyone's rights."
This incident could have happened to any of us who are active investors on the internet. If we accept such practices as standards on investment forums, we are relinquishing our fundamental rights as individuals and we are letting our judgment being clouded by people without any professional ethics.
I object to having taken away from us: - our rights as legal persons to the ownership of our texts - the privilege of using our own names to back up our opinions for fear of misuse by others - the enjoyment of freedom of speech in informing and educating each other on our common interests
I quote again ">Francoise, please check all the facts before you threaten legal action >against a non-entity such as the Insider Report. The Insider Report is >where your bank account is... it's no where.... you can't touch it..."
Above and beyond the legal ones there are moral responsibilities involved in a position of trust. We have to hold Jeffrey D. Berwick jeff@stockhouse.com Editor responsible for enforcing ethical practices on his site.
I regret to have had to cancel my subscription to the Leroy Stockman’s forum. A daily learning forum for investors is a good idea. After several questionable incidents, however, I am no longer interested in the opinions of its contributors. We can do much better on our own on sites such as this one.
It is a shame that junior companies have to rely on unscrupulous promoters and loose their reputation, their credibility and their valuation in the process. Hopefully, there will soon be other options available to them.
