For those interested in DRIPS (and I have a MRK DRIP) they might want to consider having a brokerage hold the majority of their shares and re-invest the dividends.
I use Wheat First for this and see three advantages to it: First Wheat has no charge for re-investing, second I seem to get a better buying price than though the DRIP, and thirdly it makes the stock immediately available if I want to liquidate.
I still hold a small amount of shares in the MRK DRIP in case I want to dollar average in at what I feel is a low point in the market.
