I'm not really the person to answer your question.

I don't know much about the financial irregularities in HK stocks; try the Hong Kong thread with this question. I have done a lot of work in evaluating stocks in the Electronic assembly business, and I think Massachusetts seems to be a hot bed for irregular financial reporting (ggg). Two ECM companies in Massachusetts had terrific margins and excellent earnings growth, Centennial Technologies and ACT Manufacturing. Centennial commited fraud by booking a fictious product at a cost of $5 and sold the same product for a $1000 (nice profit margin that), and thereby inflated sales a bit, and earnings a lot. The CEO Mr. Pinez is in jail. This stock was the best performing stock on the NYSE for 1996, and one of the worst for 1997.

ACT Manufacturing just reported that they lost $13M of inventory (over 20%), although they aren't sure what was lost and where it went. I happen to own some ACTM stock, so I should know more than this, but I don't.

I'll pass your thanks for the 'bear case' on to ol' Yeller. But as for me, I really think the problem with Deswell is too many Yellow Bulls; I only know of one Yellow Bear.

Paul
