My 11-year-old has a PC with dual-boot Red Hat and WXP. The Linux stuff is totally bullet-proof as far as I can tell -- it's certainly never crashed, and she likes it just as much as the XP crap (actually, a little more since it stays up). She runs XP because she takes an distance-learning algebra course that uses software that hasn't been ported to Linux (yet -- they say that it's in the works). I also haven't been able to get her Epson printer to work in the version of Linux I got. Apparently Epson won't tell people how to write the drivers and they won't write them for Linux, so unless some wizard has your printer the driver doesn't get written. I haven't checked in a few months, so perhaps it's working now. But from now on I'll only get printers that have good Linux drivers (I bought this Epson printer before we got Linux).
