"A suspected non american has no such rights...or so they would have us believe. At the foundation of our constitution is human rights. Jefferson coined the term for Americans, 'Inalienable Rights', indicating that they are God given or natural and uncompromisable by government. Jefferson also used the phrase that 'among these are', bla bla bla leaving us to understand that there is an open door of natural rights and they are not limited to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Certainly a value of do unto others is generic enough across religions and dogma that it is universal to human beings. Vindictive or sadistic torture is easily a crime against humanity. IMO
