Despite this remarkable lack of evidence, Darwin then placed the burden of proof on the skeptics, and argued that if it could be demonstrated that any complex organ *could not possibly* have evolved via numerous successive slight modifications his theory would break down, thus erecting a very high wall to protect his theory. |
