It looks like their radar improves the futhure out they look. I want to know what's happening in 2003, not 2005 - 06, Stan.
STMicroelectronics chief eyes semiconductor recovery in 2005-2006

The global semiconductor market has a chance to recover in 2005-2006, according to the head of French-Italian semiconductor maker STMicroelectronics.

In an interview in Monday's edition of La Repubblica, Pasquale Pistorio said the market for computer chips reached 200 billion dollars (205 billion dollars) in 2000 before falling to a current level of 143 billion and that recovery was uncertain.

But if it went well, "then the market for chips will return to the 2000 level of 200 billion dollars between 2005-2006," Pistorio predicted.

"If things go in this direction, then usually STM will arrive a year before the market. So our arrival at the peak should be between 2004-2005," he said.

When the market came back to 200 billion dollars, current excess capacity would disappear and company margins would recover, he added.

Pistorio said STM was outperforming the market because of its wide diversification of computer chip products and heavy investment in research.
