There are articles in the current Business Week and today's WSJ on Y2K
issues. The WSJ highlights in an added fourth section Keane which is
a software company that has many products including Y2K services. ISLI
is very similar in structure. What is interesting is that there are
very strong arguments on why the Y2K problem does not end with the
arrival of year 2000 and this is simply the fact that there is only
enough time to fix mission critical applications so the company can
limp along and stay in business. The rest of the software jungle gets
fixed post Year 2000. There is also the fact that while they are in
there fixing the date codes they get to look at the inefficiencies of
the rest of the code. Keep in mind software is an art form, not a
science. There are N ways to write code and come up with the same
answer but only one optimum way. No code is ever optimized so there
are follow-on opportunities for ISLI beyond their Y2K contracts. So
the concern that business dries up post year 2000, which is what has
depressed this segment including ISLI, is simply over-played. If you
look at IBM's resurgence it has not been with hardware or even
software offerings but it is with services. Charging a company for
the IBM personnel who are in the account doing productive work. This
is why DEC was just acquired - for their services business. Companies
cant do it by themselves anymore. ISLI is well positioned for today,
tomorrow, and post year 2000.
