Since your talking about Ericsson, I'll post this. This may have been posted already,.... its short.

"ERICSSON AND MOTOROLA SEMICONDUCTOR ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT

11 March, 1996

Ericsson, a leading provider of access network solutions, and Motorola Semiconductor's MOS Digital-Analog I.C. Division (MDAD), today announced an agreement to jointly develop an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) access solution for the use in existing copper telecommunications infrastructures.

Among the applications for this innovative product, which Ericsson will market under the brand name COBRA AT 8 (Copper Broadband Access), are high-speed on-line access for Internet services, remote LAN access, and interactive video services (e.g. Video On Demand). "
