Brian H. There are no absolutes other than death and higher taxes under Democrats. "May" is the best there is in this world. I think the analogy I made is extremely apposite to the situation. We live in a free society which means we are not only free to do good things but also free to screw up our lives as we see fit. We have the freedom to make good deals and the freedom to make bad ones as well. We don't need "do-gooder" government.

It was still wrong and in fact a crime last time I looked for any political official to give a specific special consideration in return for cash. The circumstances in this case look suspicious and should be looked into.

I am incredulous at your statement that national security is not an issue. National security is a paramount issue and separate from the money. Was the Clinton administration or its policies liable for any breach of national security? That is the question. Executive privilege does not extend to the right to undermine national secuirty or break the law. The President is sworn to defend and uphold the Constitution.

Chinese donations. The money came from the Chinese military. Excuse that. I can't think of any Chinese government arm with interests more inimical to our own.

The engineering issue has yet to be fleshed out to a degree where it is safe to assume or conclude anything. I agree. However, Mr. Schwartz is I understand the CEO of his company and just like Mr. Clinton and the US executive branch, he is responsible for the actions of the employees. Responsible contractors with sensitive information ought to have policies in place to prevent even accidental disclosures. if shown otherwise, he should be sacked and his company should not be allowed access to further sensitive information until they show they can be trusted to safeguard it.

I'm not sure we do have any missiles pointed at China (and I may be wrong). I was under the impression we "stood down" our missiles in large degree during the Reagan/Bush years. The fact that we have superior nuclear capability and the fact it makes the Communist Chinese nervous is probably, on balance, a good thing.

We'll have to disagree. I think most of your points are not well grounded. JLA
