In most cases, no. I disagree. People on SI share emails, phone #'s, addresses, and a wealth of personal information about themselves. People desiring criminal activity would have myriad other posters to probe, trick, deceive, befriend, etc. if they wished to get information on someone.
But I appreciate your point that SI allows people to be prudent (just as we are when leaving the bank or allowing information in any semi-public place)...while at the same time allowing people to share with people they grow to trust, and eventually to meeet for dinner, for parties, or anything else they wish to do. SI is the real world, so people are pretty much they way they are anywhere else where they can have both public and private conversations.

Perhaps you have never given your email out on SI, although that is not obvious from your remark; but you are the first person I have met who (possibly) has not. I think I have seen almost everyone who has ever posted on this or any thread I have spent time on, refer to emails sent to other posters. Anyway, it would be easier for people to follow me home on any one day than it would be for anyone on either SI or through email to get to my door. But they are not mutually exclusive.
